The Recorder Times

It's that time of year for third graders in music classes everywhere. It's time to learn to play...the recorder.

Nobody is immune, folks. I've already lived through a third grader learning to play the recorder...twice. Some moms choose not to vaccinate. Can I choose not to recorder? No, I'd never do that (unless somebody knows that that's a real option and then I'd strongly consider it). Viv loves her $7.99, green plastic recorder and even decorated her flimsy, plastic case.

Now if she'd just practice outside like I keep suggesting.

Echo Lake, Colorado

When you don't have anywhere to be or anything to do,
why not snowshoe across a lake?

Quote of the Day by Maxwell

*Maxwell has applied  for a referee job through Aurora Parks and Rec. He's going to start with youth basketball.

Matt: Buddy, do you know anything about basketball or the rules of basketball?
Maxwell: What?! Are you kidding me?? I've committed every single foul there is in basketball! This is going to be awesome.

*He speaks the truth. He never met a basketball game he couldn't foul out of.

Let's Do This

Got an epidural injection today, started on new meds for neuropathy and start a new physical therapy program in two weeks. I'm ready and more than anything I'm hopeful. Let's do this!

Phoenix, Arizona

Maxwell's last lacrosse tournament of the season was in Phoenix right after the first of the year, and since the kids were still on Christmas break we decided to go out a few days early and make a little family vacation out of it.
This was our view on the tarmac before takeoff. Slowly, slowly we saw the snow roll in all morning. By the afternoon we were sitting at the airport in Denver watching flights get delayed and canceled. We were delayed, de-iced and finally on our way. From 23 degrees to 65 in just an hour and a half.
And guess who met us there?! S4! It had been 7 years (and what seems like a few lifetimes) since we vacationed together and it felt so good. So, so good to see them all happy and healthy and enjoying life together. And Seamus and Sullivan. Forget it. Those boys are just beyond awesome.

Christmas 2016

Our first Christmas holiday back in Colorado was a lot like some of our last...my folks were here and Christmas Day was spent with the VanZyl's. We had friends and family around us -- what more could we ask for?
