Lycoming College

Aaaaand we have a Warrior!
Last week Maxwell made his decision and gave a verbal commit to play lacrosse at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. He and I went for an official visit a couple of weeks ago and he fell in love with the school. It was the only school that he visited that had everything on his list -- location, lacrosse, small student body and a Criminal Justice major. The criminal justice piece really set Lycoming apart from the every other school. It's not onlt a major; it's a program that is nationally ranked.

The Saturday morning of our weekend visit Maxwell first had an admissions interview and then he and I took a campus tour. After that we met with the head and assistant lacrosse coaches for a sit down and then he was off. He spent the rest of the afternoon and evening with the lacrosse team and I went to my hotel room. About an hour after I left campus, I got this text from him...

I got this text later that night asking me if I'd let him commit the next day...
He knew right off the bat that Lycoming was the place for him...
The campus tour...the pictures don't do it justice....it's a beautiful, small campus

Congratulations, Moose.
Your hard work and focus has paid off...
now the real work begins.

Machebeuf Homecoming 2017

Bishop Machebeuf - 35
Holyoke - 7

I'm getting ahead of myself though. Before the Friday night game there were Homecoming shenanigans...
I got this text from Maxwell Thursday afternoon...
(more on the Thursday night happenings in a later post)
Followed up by this picture sent from Henry
(who by the way wouldn't let anyone touch a hair on his head even though they tried)
The seniors shaved each others heads in the
parking lot of school after practice

Friday afternoon brought this text...
I guess the Machebeuf buffalo spent some time in the back of
Maxwell's truck and then found its way onto the middle of the football field

All said knuckleheads (and buffalo) finally made it to the game Friday night. And a great game it was!

And Saturday night was the dance...
not as big a deal as in years past which was just fine with everyone

Senior year Homecoming is in the books for these young men...

Grandma's Pancake Recipe

For some reason Viv and I are linked together on some sort of 'cloud' thing. Truth be told, I don't even know what the 'cloud' really means but it sounds like something people say. Basically, all of the notes she takes on her IPad, I get on my phone and vice versa. I found this one a couple of days ago...
I remember when we were in Texas this summer Viv told me that Grandma taught her how to make pancakes. Apparently she took notes...I wonder how long she thought it would take before I found it and got the hint?

Fall Ball 2017

Henry played in his first high school lacrosse game today, and Henry scored his first high school lacrosse goal!

Since he started school a few weeks ago, he's been trying to navigate his way. It's been heartwarming, and maybe a little bittersweet, to see a young man start to emerge in him. He's enjoying his school days...finally! On the first day of school (after school) I took he and Viv to Starbucks and as we were leaving I heard someone call out his name. He gave the obligatory, high school "hey, what's up" nod and when we got in the car I asked him who that was. With a little smirk he said, "oh, just some senior". He keeps saying "everyone is so nice and they all know my name!". Thank goodness, my boy!! Thank goodness, you're happy!

So, back to lax. Henry's playing fall ball with Machebeuf -- the only freshman that's playing. Fall Ball is really laid back, so it's a perfect starter for Henry. It's kind of a preview of what's to come during the real spring season. Maxwell's not playing because of football but everyone knows him and how he plays. I think early on at practices Henry felt some pressure of living up to his big brother, but he's now figured out that nobody expects him to be his big brother. They've embraced him as his own person; his own player with his own game.

And today he scored his own goal.

A couple of  weeks ago I asked Henry what his goals were for this coming spring lacrosse season and he said, "just to play on the field with Maxwell". Today after the game he told me that he thinks he wants to try and compete for the varsity team.

There you go, Beans. You pave your own path and you do it your way.

Machebeuf Football - Game 3

Bishop Machebeuf - 14
Prospect Ridge - 12

It was ugly, but it was still a win! Maxwell had one reception, an on-side kick recovery, two fumble recoveries and too many tackles to count.

Let's go Buffs!!

Pre-game prayer
