I stopped by the boys practice today because I'm working on something for the Senior Game and I needed some pictures. I didn't need this one but it was the best one of the afternoon...

BMHS Lax - Games 3,4 &5

Three loses in a row hurt. The Buffs will work it out though - they've got almost two weeks off to regroup and come back strong!

Let's go Buffs!!

Bishop Machebeuf - 3
Pondersosa - 19
This was a night game so I didn't get any pictures...and there wasn't a lot of good to take pictures of :)

Bishop Machebeuf - 9
Bear Creek - 14
My camera battery died at this game so the only pictures I got were with my little camera. Not great, but at least I got something! In the Varisty game Maxwell had 4 goals and 2 assists and in the JV 7v7 Henry had 2 goals and 2 assists.

Even though you can't see Henry, this was after his first goal...

Never. Gives. Up.

Jefferson Academy - 18

Hanson #5 had 3 goals and 2 assists in the JA game...
great stats but clearly he was disappointed in the outcome

BMHS Lax - Game 2

Bishop Machebeuf - 9
Clear Creek - 5

Maxwell had 1 goal and 6 assists and played a fantastic game!

Henry didn't play in this game but he wasn't really expecting to either. Machebeuf only has 23 players so they really can't field a Varsity and a Junior Varsity team. That means the freshman on the team are in a bit of limbo - they'll get more time in some varsity games than in others and sometimes, they won't play at all. Henry's taken it really well though. He's happy to be getting varsity coaching and practice without always having to go out against guys twice his size. As usual, he's a smart young man!

The Birthday Boy

My little aloha baby turned 15 years old yesterday...
I've been blogging for the last (almost) 8 years and I think at every birthday of Henry's I've described him the same way. Whether he was 8,11 or 13 I've said that he was kind and humble and fiercely loyal and ridiculously funny. Today at 15, nothing has changed. He's all of things and so much more. He's introspective and smart and empathetic in a way that I've never known a teenage boy to be. Physically, he's growing every day (thanks to a little outside help) and emotionally he's becoming a young man before our eyes. He is his big brothers best friend and his little sisters biggest role model. He is my pride and my joy and my baby boy.

Happy birthday, my sweet boy. I'm proud of you everyday and I love you more than you know.

Destination Imagination

A couple of months ago Vivian was invited to join the St. James Destination Imagination  team. Two students from each grade were nominated by their teachers and Viv was one of the two from 4th grade. I hadn't ever heard of Destination Imagination (DI) and even now the best way I can describe it is through the DI website...

"Destination Imagination prepares Colorado’s kids to be the innovators of the future by combining the arts, sciences, and technology with creativity, teamwork, and problem solving. Destination Imagination is a non-profit organization primarily run by volunteers."

After weeks of preparing and building and planning the St. James Mindworkers DI team represented themselves at Regionals in Denver. It was amazing to see such a confident group of young minds, and thanks to all of their hard work, they placed second! They are headed to State and Viv couldn't be more excited!!
Where their structure was going to be placed...
...putting the structure on...
...in the meantime the skit started...
...and then the weights start to be placed...
...more skit...

...everyone was holding their breath by this point wondering how much more it would hold...

It held the maximum weight - 195 lbs!!

Congratulations, St. James Mindworkers!!

BMHS Lax - Game 1

Bishop Machebeuf - 17
St. Mary's - 5

Game Day, baby!! Today was the day I'd been waiting for since Maxwell and Henry started at Machebeuf together. Game Day. I told a friend before the game that I didn't care if we lost 1000 to 0 - I just wanted to see my boys play on the same field together.

We didn't lose and they did play. Maxwell had the first (quick) goal of the game and I think it kind of set the tone for the Buffs. In the second quarter Henry had a beautiful assist to one of the seniors and then Henry got his first goal of his high school career from his brother. Maxwell said after the game that he had to stop himself from picking Henry up and swinging him around in the air. Instead he just jumped on top of him and settled for a long, long hug. My heart almost burst with love and pride.

Henry ended with 1 assist and 1 goal, and Maxwell with 6 assists and 2 goals. Combined the Hanson brothers had 10 points (goals and assists combined). Nice start to the season, boys!!

Let's go Buffs!!
