BMHS Lax Banquet 2018

For anyone who knows Henry, you know that he doesn't let just anyone into his world. He's selective to say the least. When Coach Liam first stepped into the role of  head lacrosse coach at Machebeuf, Henry was probably a little skeptical. The team was somewhat "bad news bear-ish", and Henry was one of 6 freshman fighting for a spot on the (only) Varsity team.

But Coach worked his way into Henry's world and Henry worked his tail off.

By the end of the season, every time I talked to Coach he would say, "Henry. Man, I just love that kid!". He saw the work ethic in Henry but I think he also saw a small kid fighting to find his place on a bigger team. I think all 5'5" of Coach, saw himself in Hen and they just worked. When a coach, or a teacher, is able to connect with Henry, I know they've got something special. Coach Liam had that something, and it was definitely special.

Hanson #30 - one of three freshman that earned a Varsity Letter!
The banquet was so much fun -
I am going to miss this team and their families terribly!

Coach Liam and Coach Marcus who had no idea what they were getting
themselves into when they took over just two weeks before the start of the season.
Thank God they did though!
They've been great coaches and amazing mentors to these young men!

Moose did pretty well this season, too....

He was named to the 1st Team All Conference...

...and Machebeuf's team MVP...
This season has been so special for so many reasons...
one that I won't ever forget.

Blessed, Indeed

Sunday we not only celebrated Mother's Day, but we celebrated Vivian's Confirmation too. Last year Henry was confirmed and Maxwell was his sponsor, so it was only fitting that Henry was Vivian's sponsor this year.

To be Maxwell, Henry and Vivian's mom is my greatest accomplishment and my greatest joy. I am blessed. Blessed, indeed.

BMHS Lax - Game...The Last One

Bishop Machebeuf - 5
Fountain Valley - 16

Stats: Maxwell had 5 assists

I don't think I could have scripted a better final game if I tried. Granted, Machebeuf lost, but the game was one of my favorites of the season. We played Fountain Valley, which is the school that Jacques and Morne go to AND they both play on the lacrosse team. We had the Hanson brothers vs. the Vanzyl brothers!! Yolande and I sat in the stands and just smiled - we couldn't have imagined 11 years ago when those four boys were just littles that we would be sitting in the stands watching them play high school lacrosse together!

Hanson #5

Hanson #30

By the fourth quarter we were down by
so much that Maxwell asked to play some defense for fun...
...it was hilarious seeing him with a long pole...
...it looked like he was playing swords more than anything else...

Back to a short stick...Moose and Beans out there together...

Morne and Henry!!
...at one point they just started chatting...

... Morne guarding Maxwell...
...Maxwell called the last play of the game...
the Hanson to Hanson assist...

...and just like that, the game and the season was over...
they went straight over to each other

These boys always started and ended with a team prayer

Almost 11 years ago these two became instant best friends
in preschool and nothing has changed since

Bishop Machebeuf Seniors 2018
Going their own way...
I sure will miss these days.
